Shortcomings
Some shortcomings that this book had was that it was too short and could have been longer if the author could have done more research and added it to the book. To know more about what truly happended that day. Other than that it didnt really have any shortcomings.
Praiseworthy!!
The most praiseworthy of this book was in how it goes into detail and how it has different stories in every field that made D-Day possible to accomplish. An the fact that it wasnt a fiction book and i wasnt lied to this time.
Main idea of the book or theme
The main idea of the book is to inform the reader, in what truly happened on D-Day. An what led up to it and what actions had to be taken and as well what men stepped up and led his men to victory. Even, with the great losses that day brought. But, also what secret missions were taken to get as much information as possible before going in and getting the job done. To minimize the death toll and over all the main idea of this book was inform people of a day that changed our history for ever.
compare and contrast this book and my last book
Both of the books I read were about world war 2 because im fascinated by it and if able to travel back in time I would go back to the beginning of it to join the marines or airborne to fight against the axis. My last book that I read was, The journal of scott pendleton collins and of which I read True Stories of D-Day , this time. That this a non fiction book instead of a fiction of which the journal of scott pendleton collins was and I was lied to. Over all, the key differences between has to be the depth of the details and the term usage when it came to weaponary and vehicles. That made the book I read for this book evalution 10x better than the last.
3 events!
Some incidents that happend in this book were the capturing of men, the death of many on the beaches and the exhausten with the training and what Allies forces when through to capture Normandy and move inland. Their was a lot of capturing of special ops on both the axis and allied sides of which some were torched to get information. For example, in the book many british special forces were captured and torched for information but in the end they gave nothing but lies about advancements of the allied forces so they could have the upper hand. Of which, death was another major incident of many of which died before making it the whole way to the beach or even stepping on it because they got tarred up with the mg 42 s stationed in the bunkers on the beaches. That increased the death toll in the war for the allied forces. Also, the training and the tasks assigned to a number of soldiers for their specialty. Like in pointe du huc were the allied forces had to climb a cliff before facing the enemy of which led to many deaths because it was a slaughter house. To the fault of the altitude advantage of the enemy that could shoot them down before even reaching half way up.
Most important element
The most important element to this story are the events that took place for D-Day to happen and executated with minor losses all throughout. But also, the dialogue of it in how informative it was with every detail to let the reader know what truely happened that led the Allies to win that battle. Both of these elements helped explain what the author was trying to get across to the reader. Some events happen before and after D-Day, that made it what it is today that all that happen. It was very good explain with the detail of the events and the way the author described them.
Mood of the book
This book was mostly suspenseful in situations, serious in others in facing death and desperate in getting revenge for what the Nazi party was doing. It was serious most of the times when, " for months, the soldiers had been herded from one isolated training camp to the next, forbidden to see their families and friends." For the reason, that the Allies didnt know when they would be able to strict because of the weather so they had to be strict when it came to giving passes to soldiers to go home and then comeback. But, at times in some situtions the book was very desperate like stated in page 9, " Churchill had been desperate to witness the strike into France." That made him and many other commanding officers anxious and annoyed as well because they were ready to strike back and take back what Germany had taken. Also, at times suspenseful when it came to the waiting to hear if the misson was successful or not Of which life or death situations was a big one like stated in page 26, " after a few minutes of keeping their heads down, they crept into the dunes and waited until their stretch of the beach was deserted." That was for many men their situations at times because they faced death at every corner they turned to. Over all, leads this book to have variety of moods/or tones in some cases in what the action or situation it is.
What kind of person the author is....
The author of this book may be fascinated by world war 2 as like me, that led to write this book. To let his readers know what truly happened on D-Day and what actions needed to be taken to accomplish it. You could also say , that he is informative in how he goes into great detail of things when it comes to locations in europe. Also, with the weaponary and vehicles that were used in world war 2 and nick names for each. That in end, makes him a some sort of a world war 2 historian if anything.
Purpose of the book!
Over all, this book was to meant to inform people of what truly happened and went on in the background during world war 2. That showed men willing do anything for their country to live free and bring freedom to the rest of the world if possible. For example, in Mr X meets the Desert Fox, men enlisted into the special forces to do secret missions that would could change who had the upper hand in the war. Also, in The Red Devils go to it, were volunteer men that wanted to be commando s that would go through hell to get the job done. In, both sections, the men trained till they couldnt feel anything at all so that they would be good at their specialty. Both sections gave a new perspective and inform of what they had to go through first before going into battle and die for their country if necessary and know that they died for the next man to be able to accomplish their mission.

Life as we knew it book review
3. Explain the position of the opposition and provide counterargument. (10)
Over all, i believe that i would recommend this book to someone in with its faults because of how fast of a read it is and how is it is to comprehend. Even though, some events throughtout the book are perdicatable. I would specially recommend this book to young adults and teens because they would just fall in love with it. But, the fact that it is set up in journal entries also helps with the fast paste reading , that leads readers into just going through it in matter of days to hours if committed. The way also how the author describes all the disasters happening right after the asteriod hitting the moon. That eventually lead every family around the world to follow the saying of "only the fittest will surive" and the weak will die.
But, some people believe that way that some events might have been too predictable made it boring and to easy for a read. That lead them to hate the book and never pick it up. Also, the way it was step up made people feel that they werent getting enough information. An that the author wasnt going to into depth to make it a little bit harder for the reader to figure out with the protaganist did what she did and the other characters around her as well. Thats what made it such a good book unlike others were their like 500 pages long with very complicated words that you may have no clue what they mean. The fact that it was in a journal form made it a faster read because next thing you knew you were more than half way done and then finished. Also, the fact in how the author described and led up to the disaster help build up excitment for the ending. In the end, i would highly recommend this book to someone if they wanted to read something exciting.

Would you recommend this book to other AP students?
I wouldnt recommend this book to other AP students because its very short and theirs barely any detail in it. But, it s also another person s point view towards the war. Even , though you can pretty much take the samething from a movie because its all the same events. Other than, how they emotionally handle death all around them and the combat.
Summarize the book.
Its over all about Scott Pendleton Collins and his journeys through his european campaign in world war 2. Its starts in going away party for him before he gets shipped out and he is looking at his parents living room wall seeing his dad s and grandpa pictures from the past wars. Then, he lands on Omaha beach and makes through all it obstacles. Then, after taking the beach, his company moves out and starts taking more of Normandy, that will eventually lead to the liberation of France. He eventually keeps on getting more inland and comes into a few obstacles as well. Eventually, starts losing a lot of his friends and then replacements take their place. Even, though he never wants to get close to them other than his friends that are still with him because scared of getting too attached. The Nazi threat is slowly decreasing and the german threat is retreating back. Then, his company goes into St Lo,France and its the bloodiest battle he has ever been in because of the his friends dying next him. This scares the hell out of him because its matter of time before he gets replaced like the others. After, St Lo, is company is sent to take Hill 203 and his company just gets chopped up with so many casualties. That eventually his friend Bobby Joe notices that he has been shot in the leg but Scott hadnt noticed it. It eventually leads him into going back to england to heal and then back home because by the time he is healed the war is over. He finally gets his picture put up in his parents living room for his service in the war when he comes home.
the best chapter or section of the book. Why?
I think that the last 20 pages of the book are the best because it has the most action in it. His platoon has to go up Hill 203 and its heavly fortified by the germans and 2/3 of it gets killed and then his friend Bobby Joe noticed that Scott had been shot in the leg and called for a medic and then he went to england to heal and then home.
analyze the author’s tone (pg 37)
Scott's tone in this page is very happy because his platoon is on reserve. So, he can sit back and relax but his told by his captain not to get to frisky. But, he ends up taking his first two showers in Normandy and gets 9 hours of sleep. This is the first time since the invasion to actually rest without worrying about combat.
List and number ten significant events that occur in the story chronologically plus explanation
1. Scott looks at his living room wall with the pictures of his dad and grandfather.
Scott wants his picture to be up next to theirs but doesnt feel that he has earned it because he hasnt fought in a war yet.
2. His company is on the, The Jefferson, gets a letter from Gen. Einsenhower explaining the situation.
Scott knows now that the invasion is about to begin and prays for god that he makes it through.
3.Scott lands on Omaha beach.
While, going through the beach, he is seeing all of his friends getting chopped up by the machine guns with no chance in surviving.
4. Third day in Normandy and Scott decided to write his mom a letter.
It s letting his family know that he is alive even though he cant give his location.
5.His company moves into the city of Couvains,France.
While, in the city, his company gets zeroed by mortars and must get cover in buildings.
6. His unit got lectured by a chaplain.
The chaplain pretty much gave information about why they were fighting in the war and also some information about how hitler came to power.
7.Went on his first patrol to check out a house.
It always had a candle by one of its windows so scott and a few others went and checked it out so who ever was living in it wouldnt give their position away.
8.Scott receives a lettter from his mom.
She tells him everything that is going on back home but nothing relating to what he wrote her so he is suspicious about if any family is receiving any letters from them.
9. Got orders to move 500 yards from where they where at.
It was a false order because they found out later that the command post never gave that order. So, a few germans can speak perfect english. This scared Scott because him and his company may be going to a trap one of these times.
10. A doctor notices something wrong with Scott's left leg.
It was actually a shot wound but it was too cold to actually feel any pain from it and he was sent back to england and then home because by the time he was healed the war was over.
Scott wants his picture to be up next to theirs but doesnt feel that he has earned it because he hasnt fought in a war yet.

two places that are mentioned in the book
One of the places mentioned in the book was Omaha beach. It was one of the beaches that was assualted on D-Day. The weather had been rainy and cloudy all throughout the day and it had choppy waters. It was fortified with mines, walls, barbed wire, etc. To keep the allies from advancing into Normady and into to taking France. Their were also bunkers built after the beaches so they could set up machine guns inside and just destroy anyone trying to take the beach. Another place described in the book was St Lo, France, where one of the bloodiest battles were fought. Most of it was rumble by the time Scott reached it because of the bombings of the city and continous fighting. Their were also fortifications all over the city and some streets were blocked with debry from the buildings and the vehicles.

most important people or entities in the book
I think that the most important people in this book is, Scott Pendleton Collins and Bobby Joe, because scott always include's him in his entries. They go through everything together and keep each other from breaking with all the death and destruction around them. Over all, Scott is rather quite and doesnt have much confidence in making it through everything and being able to see his family again and the girl back home that he likes. He follows all the orders that he is given but he never wants to get too close with comrades because if they do get killed so he wont get haunted by their faces when he sleeps. Scott mostly keeps to himself and always has negative thoughts towards the statements that his friends say but never actually says what actually thinks. But, on the hand, Bobby Joe was always the star in everything back home but after a few weeks in combat, he forgets about what he has accomplished and just wants to kill as many germans. So, they can get closer to hitler and end the war. Bobby Joe is also like Scott at some points but sometimes he can be a hot head. But, they have each others back when it comes down to it.
Explaination of the title and how it relates to the book.
The name of this book is called, The Journal of Scott Pendleton Collins, and it s over all self explanatory because that s what it is a journal of his adventures throught his campaign through Europe during world war 2.
